Day 4: There is a lot of trust that’s needed when in a new place!

Friday, March 24

Yay for Friday’s! Am I right? I went to Akilah today and finished my draft proposal for their internship program! That’s one of a few projects I’ll be working on while I’m here. They have had volunteers come to the school before but never an official, organized program. Well, obviously this project is right up my alley and something I feel super excited to help get launched! I worked on it for two days and got it to a place for discussion. We are meeting on Monday to actually discuss! Yay! So, once I finished, I went back home and hung out with Ange and ate a little snack!

Tonight I have dinner plans with the girls! Haha, sounds like we are besties! Rita, the girl I’m living with, and Natasha, from Akilah, are both friends. Natasha organized a dinner for her friends to reconnect and invited me to attend. Super exciting stuff! We went to dinner around 9 pm. It was Candy, Sam, Sharon, Rita, Natasha and me. We went to this delightful restaurant called Poivre Noir. Poivre Noir means black pepper! Fun fact!  It was delicious. We were picked up by Candy and Natasha and went on our way. I got a steak with white truffle mashed potatoes, Jameson and Sprite to drink. Yum! A friend of Candy’s owns the restaurant. She was very nice.

We left the restaurant and then hit the club! I had such a good time! We stayed until 3am and then had to call it quits. They stay open until 7 am here! That’s CRAZY to me! I’m so glad I went. Truth be told, I felt a little like Julia Stiles character in …. What’s the movie? The only difference is I don’t have her dance skills to fall back on! But it was a great night. The girls were so nice and ensured I was always watched over which was greatly appreciated.
The whole time I was thinking how when traveling,  to really get the most out of your experience, and to feel like a local, you have to put your trust in others.  I had the best night, but it went against every “stranger danger” talk you’ve ever heard!

Sometimes the risk is worth taking and you end up having a great night, with new friends, in a new country!
