Baby it’s cold outside!

This morning I woke up in London with a plan to go on a 2 hour free walking tour!  It was highly recommended by our hostel and was supposed to provide an awesome overview of London. Traditionally this type of thing wouldn’t be my first choice – but I love a good recommendation!

When I woke up, it was in the low 30’s (F) and there was a slight drizzle. As a reminder, in Florida, 70 degrees is boot weather!  Needless to say, I wasn’t super thrilled to hear the temperature.  I got up,  put on two pair of pants, a shirt, fitted sweater, fluffy sweater and coat; two pair of socks, mittens, a scarf and my Sperry Boots. Guess what I forgot? Something for my poor ears!

We left for the tour and the temperature was decreasing! You could see it in the air. It was getting more gray and more water was misting! We walked all over London (which I learned is actually Westminster!). London is actually a city that’s about 1 square mile in size. Westminster is the broader cities actual name. Craziness.

Anyway, the tour was awesome but I have to be honest. About 30 minutes in, I wanted to quit. I was miserable. My hands, ears, face and feet all felt frozen – miserably frozen. Like they were burning. Long story short, I realized how sometimes you get the urge to quit but you just need to push through.

In Spain, I wanted to quit because my legs and feet were so tired from walking. Well, I had to keep walking to make it to my destination. Quitting literally wasn’t an option. I had to rely on myself. I had to push through the pain and in doing so, I became stronger. Physically but also mentally.  Today, I wanted to go inside and defrost more than anything. We finished the tour and then I felt like I conquered the cold. It was a weird feeling. I know it sounds so silly but it felt like an aha moment!

I’m certain it’s mental. I don’t think my body just suddenly acclimated. Most things in life are about your mental perspective. Today was a good reminder that how you think impacts how you feel. Don’t get me wrong, it was still freezing! But I realized when will I ever be in London, traveling the world, like I am right now? I can’t just wait for the sunny days – I have to make the most of every day I have.

Isn’t that life though? Make the most of every day. Push past fear, negative thoughts, self doubt, and limiting beliefs. Whatever you want to accomplish – just go for it! You never know what life may have in store for you when you push past your limits.

After wanting to quit at like 10:30 am – I ended up hitting almost 25,000 steps throughout the day and walked almost 10 miles! It was an incredible day!

Today’s lesson: Push past your mental limitations! You’ll surprise yourself with what you’re truly capable of.
